Papagni Wines Take Home More

Papagni Wines received more awards from the San Francisco International Wine Competition this past June. The nationally recognized panel presented two silver medals for their 2011 Muscat Alexandria and 2003 Alicante Dessert Wine; and a bronze medal for their 2011 Pinot Grigio.

????The 2011 Muscat Alexandria has aromas of fresh floral notes and just-picked grapefruit. Its palate is rounded, rich and sweet. It has flavors of honey and apricot that are balanced by a light acidity. Papagni Wines suggests pairing it with spicy Asian cuisine or with fresh fruit and angel food cake. The 2003Dessert Wine, an Alicante Bouschet, has aged for 9 years in Papagni?s cellars. It has a nose of sweet, toasty black fruits and white pepper with soft tannins and a silky finish. Only 95 cases of this wine were produced.

The San Francisco International Wine Competition celebrated its 32nd year at the distinguished Hotel Nikko June 15, 16, and 17. It was their largest competition so far with more than 4,500 wines judged from 1300 wineries. Entries were submitted from 29 countries and 26 states.

The tough competitors required prestigious judges, which included Anthony Dias Blue. Blue is the executive director and founder of the San Francisco International Wine Competition as well as the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. He is also the owner and editor-in-chief of The Tasting Panel magazine. The San Francisco International Wine Competition is a well respected wine competition in the United States.

This isn?t the first time Papagni Wines received recognition from the influential wine competition. Last year Papagni Wines brought home silver medals for their 2001 Alicante Bouschet and 2009 Malvasia Bianca in the 2011 San Francisco International Wine Competition.

Guests are welcome to taste any of these wines at Papagni?s brand new Madera wine tasting room in Madera, CA. Decorated with family memorabilia, this contemporary tasting room elicits a feel of warmth and hospitality. It is open weekends from 12p.m. to 4p.m. and weekdays by appointment.
